ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to outline some of the commonly used calibration procedures with the emphasis on practical aspects of assay calibration. However, an effort has been made to provide information that may help readers understand the ideas behind the different approaches. For those who wish to delve deeper, references are also given to many of the excellent papers which discuss the theoretical aspects of assay calibration, curve fitting etc. The discussion of standardisation has been approached from a historical point of view since fashion for, and use of particular techniques has changed with increasing knowledge and with increasing computing power.
