ABSTRACT

After obtaining high-7c (critical current density) properties with silver-sheathed bismuth (2223 phase) wire [1], a long-wire fabrication became the key issue for actual application. High-7c long wires of 1-km-class length are being developed. These wires have a multifilamentary configuration and are flexible. Prototypes of power application devices were made and evaluated. Such prototypes include current leads, busbars, flexible cable conductors, and refrigerator cooled magnets. Among these prototypes, 2000-A current carrying leads were developed and have been used for synchrotron radiation (SR) equipment at Harima Research Laboratories of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. This machine has been operated successfully for over a year from December 1993.
