ResearchersfromESNA(ElasticStopNutCorporationofAmerica)performedextensivedynamictestsofboltedassembliessubjectedtovibrationandshock,whicharedocumentedin reportsfromESNA(Baublesetal.,1966;Faroni,1967).Thistestingresultedinthefirsttheory onshock-inducedloosening,whichisbasedontheideathatshocksorimpactstoabolted assemblywillcausethecomponentstoresonateandloosen.Thiscanbedemonstratedusing theblockonaninclineanalogyasshowninFigure8.Ifstaticfictionexceedsthecomponent ofweightthattendstocausesliding,theblockremainsatrest.Iftheplaneisvibratedorif
