ABSTRACT

The curves in Fig. 7.16 shows the distribution of the pressure f1p between solid and liquid phases at various depths. At a particular depth, say z/H = 0.5, the stress in the soil skeleton is represented by AC and the stress in water by CB. AB represents the original excess hydrostatic pressure u j =D.p. The degree of consolidation Uz percent at this particular depth is then
