ABSTRACT

From point PI' draw a line parallel to the base AD on which 0'1 acts. Since this line coincides with the O'-axis, point P2 is the origin of planes. Lines P2C1 and P2C'1 give the orientations of the failure planes. They make an angle of 45° + (jJ/2 with the O'-axis. The lines drawn parallel to the lines P2C1and P2C'1 in Fig. 11.6(a) give the shear lines along which the soil slips in the plastic state. The angle between a pair of conjugate shear lines is (90° -(jJ). Passive State of Stress Cp is the Mohr circle in Fig. (11.6e) for the passive state and P3 is the origin of planes.
