Base in Cohesionless Soil The theoretical approach as outlined above is quite complicated and difficult to apply in practice for drilled piers in granular soils. Direct and simple empirical correlations have been suggested by O'Neill and Reese (1999) between SPT N value and the base bearing capacity as given below for cohesionless soils.
