Linear Shrinkage The swell potential is presumed to be related to the opposite property of linear shrinkage measured in a very simple test. Altmeyer (1955) suggested the values given in Table 18.3 as a guide to the determination of potential expansiveness based on shrinkage limits and linear shrinkage.
