ABSTRACT

Most of the sections in this chapter until now have focused on acoustic modeling for P(OIW), one of the three basic problems in ASR as exemplified in the fundamental equation of Eq. 12.1 described in Section 12.2. The third problem, also called search or decoding, is a sequential optimization problem for the word sequence W that maximizes the posterior probability P(WIO) as shown in Eq. 12.1. There is a vast literature on many solutions to this problem, which will not be covered in this book. For interested readers, we refer them to excellent references in [Ney 00] and in (Chapters 12 and 13) of the book [Huang 01].
