ABSTRACT

The conventional method for diagnosing sleep disorders is with a laboratory polysomnogram. This test requires that the patient sleep overnight in a sleep laboratory, where numerous parameters can be monitored simultaneously (see Table 4). Laboratory polysomnograms are conducted under the constant supervision of sleep technologists, so that malposition of leads or other problems with data acquisition can be corrected as the prob lems arise. Occasionally a second night of testing is required if the patient does not sleep adequately during the first night.
