ABSTRACT

Screw threads are remarkably complex machine elements; for that is exactly what they are. When properly assembled they have a capability to develop and transfer tremendous forces. There are over 125 separate geometrical features and dimensional characteristics in the design and construction of screw threads, each with its own term and definition. However, with a familiarity of only about 30 the engineer can be comfortably conversant in the language of screw threads and, more importantly, can have a good working understanding of their function and performance capabilities.
