ABSTRACT

Depending on the corrosion environment, one usually deals with different forms of corrosion. Uniform corrosion of the material is experienced when lead is exposed to atmosphere. Pitting corrosion, which is very localized to the pit region, will be experienced when conditions of partial passivity or cavitation exists. Intergranular corrosion is experienced when the grain-boundary region has a higher relative chemical activity. Accelerated corrosion can occur when erosion, fatigue, and fretting are synergistically coupled with corrosion.
