ABSTRACT

Most plants live in symbiotic association with fungi, forming what was called by Frank (1885), more than a century ago, mycorrhizae. In this interaction, although the presence of the fungus is only at the root region, all parts of the plant are affected by the mycorrhizal colonization (Dugassa et al., 1996). Among the different types, the arbuscular mycorrhizae is the most common and widely distributed in the tropics.
