ABSTRACT

The combinations of 2,4-D and triazine herbicides also show synergism. Dickerson and Sweet [28] observed synergism w i t h the addit ion of three ounces (85 g) of 2,4-D to one pound (452 g) of atrazine and one gallon (3.785 L) of crop oil per acre (0.4 ha) on

Cyperus esculentus. This combination was much more effective than four times the rate of atrazine applied w i t h o i l . Lynch et al. [78] found synergism wi th low rates of 2,4-D and atrazine on bean leaves. Diem and Davis [29] reported that non-toxic concentra tions of 2,4-D increased the toxicity of atrazine when applied to the roots of water hyacinth (Eichhomia crassipes) and to a lesser extent when applied to the roots of soybean. Non-toxic concentrations of 2,4-D frequently also increased the absorption of ametryn, water and calcium by corn, soybean and water hyacinth. The mixtures of toxic concen trations of 2,4-D and ametryn were not synergistic and they were less toxic than ametryn alone.
