ABSTRACT

African locust bean (Parkia filicoidea) is a tree legume found throughout West Africa, South-east Asia and tropical South America. It is a mediumsize tree found in open savanna woodland where it may be the only tree species at places, characterized by fruits that have elongated pods, 5-11 inches long, occurring in clusters. The immature fruit is green, turning a brown as it matures. The mature pod consists of a husk which encloses a powdery yellow pulp in which dark brown seeds are embedded.
