ABSTRACT

Environmental factors are particularly important in the cultivation of legumes. Water deficits, temperature, soil acidity and light intensity-all have profound effects on the growth, development and yield of soybean in particular (Hunt et al., 1987; 1990; Kasperbauer et al., 1984). The effect of spectral composition of light on soybean has shown that self regulation of nodulation in soybean seedlings was affected by FR and R light treatments (Hunt et al., 1987) and that nodulation of soybean seedlings can be altered by variation in the spectral composition of light reflected from different coloured surfaces (Hunt et al., 1985).
