After a fairly long period of experimentations around the world on haploid production, different methods are now available to the geneticists

and breeders. For us in Szeged, in vitro androgenesis is one of the most efficient systems of homozygote line production that is widely applicable in wheat, and could make a significant contribution to the breeding of new varieties by saving time and increasing selection efficiency via doubled haploid (DH) lines (Snape 1981; Baenziger et al., 1984).
