ABSTRACT

Environmental auditing of contaminated land was introduced in Victoria by the Environment Protection Act 1970. In 1995, the South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA) effectively introduced the scheme in South Australia, by advising planning authorities such as councils to use environmental auditors (accredited by EPA Victoria) to review site assessment and remediation work, and to prepare Site Audit Reports. The author was appointed as an auditor in 1997, and has since completed some 50 audits in South Australia, and two in the Northern Territory.
