ABSTRACT
Lignans comprise a group of plant secondary metabolites receiving a great deal of attention in the field of natural product chemistry since the discovery of podophyllotoxin (PT). Lignans are defined as ßß-linked dimers of coniferyl alcohol, and are widely spread throughout the plant kingdom. The present interest for this group of natural products is based on its application in the fields of pharmacy and nutrition.
