ABSTRACT

Fig. 2.28 The fluorescent spectra of nectar and nectaries of Pass/flora coeru/ea. Adopted from Roshchina e t al., (1998a). Nectar from extrafloral nectaries contains phenols, blue-fluorescing.

cells. The fluorescence spectra of secretory cells on the petals demonstrates bright-lightening secretory cells (one maximum at 470-475 or 500 nm) that differ from nectar-containing cells (two maxima at 520 and 620 nm) and anthocyanin-containing cells with weak fluorescence. None of these cells have the maximum 680 nm, peculiar to chlorophyll, unlike non-secretory cells located at the top of petals. In the fluorescence spectra of secretory cells of pistil there are three maxima (at 475, 535 and 680 nm).
