ABSTRACT

Other factors, such as the frequency distribution of vibration from construction blasts, are also discussed where relevant to the prediction of intrusion or structural damage.

INTRODUCTION

The use of explosives during civil engineering construction can cause ground vibrations which result in damage to nearby property or the adjacent works and substantial nuisance to the local population. These factors may lead to restraints on the working method which lead to additional costs or even, in extreme circumstances, to curtailment of the works. The more accurate prediction of vibration has therefore become an increasingly important part of the site investigation programme for construction works involving blasting.
