ABSTRACT

The existence of a dam with a large enbankment capacity has an outstanding influence on the thermal equilibrium of a river. In fact, the water retained in the reservoir has an important thermal inertia; it keeps cold in summer and warm in winter, taking as a reference the temperature that the river water would have if there was no dam: Therefore, when the water starts to be drained from the dam, the process of recovery of its thermal equilibrium begins.
