ABSTRACT

Recently there has been increasing scientific evidence of association between urban air quality and human health effects[e.g.1-3]. In many urban areas vehicle pollution is now regarded as one of the most important factors affecting air quality[4,5] and developments involving large amounts of road traffic must be considered carefully by public health officials. Similarly there is evidence on the association between industrial air pollution and the health of the inhabitants of urban areas. This chapter outlines some of the important aspects of these problems.
