ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The need for hydraulic simulation tools which deal adequately with the peculiarities of irrigation systems is the reason behind the setting up of a Research and Development Project in Spain, with the collaboration of various local and national organizations. Its aim is to develop advanced computational hydraulic software, GESTAR, specially adapted for the design, planning and management of pressurized irrigation networks. A summary is given of the most significant characteristics of GESTAR’s recent versions. The software has been validated by extensive fieldwork and, since it first appeared, has been used in the successful design and management of numerous irrigation systems.
