ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: Currents in Malacca and Singapore Strait are due to tides with significant contributions by residual currents, mainly related to monsoon cycles. Remote sensing data are expected to add vital information to assess physical parameters in the real life system. The paper describes the utilization of satellite altimetry data generated by TOPEX/POSEIDON (T/P) and Jason-1 altimeter data of the South China Sea and theAndaman Sea bordering the Indian Ocean. This paper is prelude to improving seasonal transport patterns in Southeast Asian waters using remote altimeter data in operational (forecasting) modelling. Both the regional and local scales are addressed.
