ABSTRACT

Building materials are fundamental in providing shelter for people from the external environment and are heavily and widely used in construction. Existing composite structural building materials and components such as steel reinforced concrete and continuous fibre reinforced plastic reinforced concrete have many excellent characteristics. The service life of building materials used in buildings should be as long as possible during in-service use to conserve resources and energy, so as to reduce burdens on the environment. In the field of construction, the development of environmentally-conscious buildings and environmentally-conscious building component technology is the basis of sustainability. The fundamental drive of environmental design procedure is how to achieve environmentally-conscious life cycle design - eco-life cycle design - to develop sustainable eco-cities and eco-buildings, by focusing on composite materials. The establishment of sustainable society taking into account the balance between the environment, the economy and safety/long service life has been becoming an urgent problem for the twenty-first century.
