R A M on the other hand can be written to and read from many times. I t can be found in the same circuit wi th the CPU or externally to the microcomputer. This type o f memory can be found in a variety o f different speeds (access times). High speed R A M is used internally on the chip for various functions including registers. Slower speed R A M is used externally to the microcomputer to hold data such as temporary variables and for temporary storage o f programs during prototyping as w i l l be discussed in Section I V .
