ABSTRACT
Bangladesh lies in the eastern part of South Asia latitudinally between 20°34/
and 26°33/ N and longitudinally between 88°0l' and 92°4l' E (Fig. 12.1). The geographic area of the country covers 1,47,570 km2. It is surrounded by India on three sides-west, north and east and has a common border with Myanmar in the southeast. The Bay of Bengal lies south of Bangladesh.
