ABSTRACT

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are strict biotrophs. In exchange for carbon compounds, these symbiotic fungi improve the uptake of phosphorus in plants (1,4,5), a highly immobile element in soil. In some circumstances, AM fungi can also benefit plants by increasing the uptake of nitrogen (4,6) and micro nutrients (5,7). In general, AM fungi have a positive effect on plant health and resistance to stress factors (8).
