ABSTRACT
In order to choose a suitable overlay system for a given situation, the characteristics which are relevant for the role they have to play in the road structure have to be determined. Limits for these characteristics can then be specified in standard tender specifications. Tests are therefore necessary on the interlayer system itself, on the overlay and on the behaviour of the interlayer as part of the overlay system. The characterization of interlayer systems is described in section 4.1. Tests to evaluate the effect of the interlayer system as part of the overlay system are given in section 4.2. Tests on overlays are not described here, an overview has been given in [ref, 1].
