ABSTRACT

Due to both its central position in the state and its geographical location, the Ljubljana Field gravel plain is situated where the interests of urbanization, industry and agriculture intersect. Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, has developed over the last hundred years from a town of 20,000 inhabitants to a city of 300,000 inhabitants. The small town situated at the foot of the Castle hill has expanded over the great part of the Ljubljana Field and merged with villages in the vicinity.
