ABSTRACT

A gasket is the interface between two imperfect surfaces. Its function is to prevent leakage of liquids or gases under constantly changing conditions of mechanically and thermally induced stress. Gaskets are used in static sealing applications that range from a simple rubber seal on a garden hose to sophisticated combinations of metallic and nonmetallic elements for high-pressure, high-temperature industrial applications, often sealing toxic or flammable liquids or gases.
