ABSTRACT
Necrotizing enterocolitis can present insidiously. Our chief neonatologist at Tufts believes that in the management o f preterm infant illness the “first chance to treat is the only chance.” Thus the subtlety o f presentation and delicacy o f the patient demand great vigilance on the part of all. The radiologist may contribute by sustaining a high index of suspicion for features o f N E C when reading all studies-both for the early sometimes nonspecific features o f developing bowel disease as well as the blatant classical radiological features o f established N EC.
