ABSTRACT
A s the mystery o f necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) has slowly been deciphered, and characterized in the past 33 years, it has become clear that crucial to the evolution o f this disease is the bacteriologic environment in which the enteric process develops. Through this understanding, preventative measures and treatments have been developed and tested, with a certain degree o f success.
