ABSTRACT

Cysticercosis is a parasitosis produced by Cysticercus cellulosae (cysticerci), the larval form of the adult parasite Taenia solium. It affects the nervous system, eyes, skin, muscle and other organs. It was known in antiquity; Aristotle described the larva in a pig's tongue. Human infestation was described by Rumler in 1558, by Renna and Panarolus in 1558 and by Kuchenmeister in 1855. Inl856 Leuckart studied the life cycle and demonstrated the relationship between the larva and the adult worm.
