ABSTRACT

Pellagra, also named rose's disease or Gaspar Casal's disease, is a systemic disease caused by niacin deficiency, with a predominant involvement of the skin, mucosae and central nervous system. The dermatosis is bilateral and symmetric, with a preference for sunlight exposed areas. It is characterized by erythema, scaling, blisters and pigmentation. It is known as the disease of four“Ds”: dermatitis, diarrhea, dementia and death.
