ABSTRACT

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is now considered to play a m ajor role in neurogenic vasodilatation, as a result o f its release from prim ary afferent nerve term i nals.1 Vasodilatation due to CGRP is thought to be independent o f nitric oxide (N O ),2 bu t N O has been suggested to trigger the release o f CGRP from sensory nerve term inals.3 We have studied the effects o f CGRP8_37, and a selective neuronal nitric oxide (nNOS) inhibi tor, 1 -(2-trifluorom ethylphenyl)im idazole (TRIM ), on vasodilatation induced by stim u lation o f the rat saphenous nerve.
