ABSTRACT

Prulifloxacin (Quisnon [Japan], Sword [Japan], Unidrox [Italy], Prixina [Greece], Glimbax [Greece], Pruvel [United States], Pruquin [generic]) is an oral antibiotic of the fluroquinolone class. It was synthesized in 1987 in Japan by Nippon Shinyakyu Co., Ltd (Nippon) and subsequently patented in 1989 (Kise et al., 1989). It is licensed in a number of countries in Asia and Europe; however, it is not currently available in the United States or Australia.
