ABSTRACT

Tosufloxacin is a newer generation oral fluoroquinolone with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-negative, Gram-positive, and anaerobic organisms, and Chlamydophila spp. (see Figure 121.1). It became commercially available in 1990, but because of concerns regarding potential toxicity and the availability of fluoroquinolones with better activity, it has been withdrawn in most countries and is now only available in parts of Asia. It is mainly used for treatment of respiratory and gastrointestinal tract infections, as well as genitourinary, hepatobiliary, and orthopedic infections (Kohno, 2002).
