ABSTRACT

Streptomycin was discovered by Schatz and Waksman in the 1940s (Jones et al., 1944) and was the first antibiotic to be effective against tuberculosis. Streptomycin was also the first drug of any kind to be tested in a randomized, blinded, controlled trial (Angell, 2015; Chalmers, 2011; Daniels and Hill, 1952).
