ABSTRACT

Ketoconazole (Nizoral) is a member of the imidazole class of antigungal agents. It is structurally related to clotrimazole and miconazole, and similarly has a wide spectrum of antifungal activity. Clinical research with ketoconazole began in 1977. It was marketed in the United States in 1981, and subsequently in other countries (Janssen and Symoens, 1983; Lewis et al., 1984). It has the advantage of being orally bioavailable.
