ABSTRACT
Isavuconazole (Basilea Pharmaceutica, Basel, Switzerland) is a broad-spectrum prodrug triazole with efficacy against a range of medically important fungi including Aspergillus spp. and the Mucorales. Isavuconazonium (BAL-8557) is the water-soluble prodrug of isavuconazole (BAL-4815), which is the active moiety. The conversion to isavuconazole is rapid and complete. Isavuconazole is the newest member of the triazole class of antifungals and has an important role in the treatment of life-threatening invasive fungal diseases (IFDs).
