ABSTRACT

Pyrimethamine was one of the first of many 2,4-diaminopyrimidines to be synthesized and tested for antimicrobial activity. Its chemical formula is C12H13ClN4, and its structure is shown in Figure 93.1. The main value of pyrimethamine has been its antiprotozoal activity, especially against malaria and Toxoplasma, for which it is used in combination regimens (Falco et al., 1951; Symposium on Daraprim, 1952).
