ABSTRACT

SINUS NODE DYSFUNCTION Th e prevalence of sinus node dysfunction increases with age due to replacement ➤ of sinoatrial cells by fi brous tissue. It may manifest as sinus bradycardia, sinus arrest or brady-tachy syndrome. ➤

Sinus bradycardia In normal individuals, heart rates below 35-40 beats/min should not reduce cerebral perfusion suffi ciently to cause symptoms. However, older patients with associated cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease are more prone to experience symptoms such as presyncope, fatigue and dyspnoea.
