ABSTRACT

There are a number of reasons for sampling the exhaust gases from an industrial combustion process [1]. One is to determine whether the emissions are within regulatory limits. Another is to determine the efciency and effectiveness of the pollution control technology being

used in a given process. Stricter limits or ineffective pollution control technologies may lead to design changes in the equipment. Sampling is also useful for predicting any potential problems in the development of a new process or modication of the existing process. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established sampling methods for different pollutants in 40 CFR 60 [2]. These are available electronically over the Internet [3].
