ABSTRACT

In industrial furnaces, various methods have been established to improve the thermal efciency and reduce environmental pollution. Some of these methods for improving efciency are shown in Figure 21.1 [1]. For the case of continuous heating furnaces, the energy loss associated with exhaust gases, the furnace body, and cooling water can result in a signicant decrease of thermal efciency. A reduction in these losses can improve the furnace thermal efciency. A reduction of fuel or hydrocarbon species in the exhaust gases results in a simultaneous reduction of pollutants emission and an increase of combustion efciency.
