ABSTRACT

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, recently develop a new approach in wireless system design: one that involves low-cost embedded devices that can be implemented for a variety of applications [1].These small and low-cost sensor nodes became technically and economically feasible [2]. The sensor node is a miniaturized device which is equipped with sensors such as temperature, humidity, light, sound, and so on. Nevertheless, due to the extremely small architecture as shown in Figure 16.1, the sensors lacks in storage space, energy supply, and communication width. For

example, a sensor typically has 8-120 kB of code memory and 512-4096 bytes of data memory. The transmission bandwidth ranges from 10 to 115 kbps.
