ABSTRACT
The building sector has a massive impact on the environment in terms of energy consumption, use of natural resources and waste production. The construction industry is under increasing pressure to become sustainable. Modem buildings ought to save energy, be ecological and planned according to the rules of ergonomic designing, i.e. they should protect a healthy environment and comfOliable surrounding conditions for the people inhabiting them, and they should not be a nuisance to the natural environment at all stages of their existence. Nowadays re-using materials from the waste stream appears as a critical component of sustainable development. All over the world there is a huge amount of construction waste. The potential to re-use them and to reduce landfill and new materials production growth is enormous. When reclaimed materials are secured from an existing building site, the environmental impact is very low. Even when they are sourced hom far away, reclamation process is still one of the most environmentally friendly options for supplying materials to the construction industry.
