ABSTRACT
The middle income group. families in India are unable to construct European type toilets for their older parents due to reasons like space problem in their homes, financial problem and sometimes the family doesn't bother about elders to take so much pain for them. Besides this. no consideration has been given by the manufacturers (who are involved in the production of toilet chairs) about the body dimensions of these people, for desil,,'11ing products for them. It has been also seen that these age group faced lots of problem like fall and slip and other kinds of accidents due to the use of these malfunctioning toilet chairs. Taking into account this study was planned to sort out the dimensions of old age people for designing of toilet chair through CAD to reduce the cases of accidents among them. For this total 200 people were taken for data collection where 50 per cent were male and 50 per cent were female. All the required dimensions were used on percentile bases and also the adjustments were used by taking 5t\ 50th and 95th percentile values for this chair. Besides this some additional features were also added in it on the basis of
the limitations of this age group people like, curved edges and softncss etc. After designing this was converted into actual product and was also givcn to the third age people so that they can use it and can say about the positivc as well as negative points of this toilet chair. The responses against this chair were that 60 pcr cent of people were highly satisfied by it on the other hand there wcre pcople (i.e. 10 per cent) who wcre showed low range of satisfaction and the cause behind this was the weight of toilet chair. Those people who lived alone and have no people in the family to favor them in moving this chair from one place to another find difficult to handle it themselves. But if we want to avoid accidents, weight can't be reduced but there is an alternative that locking wheels can be added in it to make it easily movable. In this way the problem among third age people can be cured in this area to make their life easy going.
