ABSTRACT

Jumping is a common activity in different sports and is used in trainings for many others. Because jumping activity is involved in impact between lower extremities with the environment, it is prone to injuries. In order to get an insight of parameters associated with performance improvement and injury prevention, significant researches have been devoted to jumping study for decades. These studies cover different types of jumping in different stmiing positions and conditions, such as: countermovement vertical jumping, squat vertical jumping, and long jumping with free and restricted arm movements. In terms of study methods, two major approaches have been used: Data-driven motion analysis (experimental method) and simulation-based simulation. Each method has its pros and cons. In general, data-driven method can give the answer; however, it cannot predict the motion. Whenever the environment parameters change, a new experiment needs to run. On the other hand, simulation-based method can predict the cause and effect easily. But the validation work is complicated. This paper attempts to have a comprehensive literature survey to summarize different approaches for jumping motion and their pros and cons.
