ABSTRACT
To best understand the historical process that culminated with the transference and adaptation of plants and animals from the oriental to the occidental hemisphere, an important chronological mark was the discovery by the Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama of a new route connecting directly Europe to India. It was the first large stride toward globalization with repercussion to the New World that surpasses the first human trip to the moon.
